Frequently Asked Questions about GreenUp Renewable Energy

Why are we offering the GreenUp renewable energy option?

We’re committed to helping our customers find the right energy supply for their needs.

We want to support the development of the competitive energy market, and GreenUp offers another way to do that—by encouraging the growth of renewable energy sources. The GreenUp companies are independent, and we do not profit from this program. It’s simply part of our commitment to our customers and the environment.

Who can participate in GreenUp?

Residential or small business customers on a G1 rate who do not receive power from a competitive supplier.

Unsure whether you have a competitive supplier? Review the Supplier Services section on your monthly electric bill or sign into your account for details.

Can Customer Service help me choose a GreenUp provider?

Our Customer Service Representatives can’t recommend specific GreenUp providers. We remain neutral regarding the participating companies and their offerings.

What happens to my electricity if I enroll in GreenUp?

By enrolling in GreenUp, you’re supporting the growth of renewable energy sources in our region. Your electricity service won’t change—you’ll still receive safe, reliable power from us as a Basic Service customer. We’ll continue to deliver electricity, send your monthly bill, and restore power during outages.

How can I enroll?

Choose a GreenUp provider and a renewable energy generation option, then contact the company directly via their website or by phone. For more information, visit the GreenUp Program page.

What’s the difference between a GreenUp provider and a competitive power supplier?

If you choose a GreenUp provider, we’ll continue supplying your power, and GreenUp charges will appear as a separate line item on your bill. GreenUp is not a competitive supplier, and Rhode Island Energy will remain your provider unless you choose to switch to a competitive supplier.

How will choosing GreenUp affect my monthly electric bill?

The cost of your chosen GreenUp renewable energy generation option will be added to your Basic Service cost and other regular charges. Your monthly GreenUp cost is based on the electricity you use.

How will I be billed if I select a GreenUp provider?

You’ll continue to receive one monthly bill from us. The GreenUp option will appear as a separate line item, with the cost based on the price provided by the GreenUp company.

Who are the GreenUp renewable energy companies currently participating?

For a list of GreenUp companies and their contact details, visit the GreenUp Energy Program page.

What’s the energy mix in my current electricity supply?

You can find information on energy sources, emissions, and supplier details in the fuel source disclosure labels on the GreenUp Energy Program page. These labels help you make informed decisions about independent power suppliers.

What energy efficiency and conservation programs are available for my home?
