Appliance Recycling Program

Rhode Island Energy offers a free and convenient appliance recycling service. When you schedule a pickup, our team will collect your appliance(s) from your home or business at no cost.

As an added incentive, we offer rebates to help offset the cost of your energy-efficient replacements. Get $50 when you recycle a working refrigerator or freezer, and receive $30 for a working dehumidifier.

Eligibility requirements

1. Program participants must be Rhode Island Energy residential electric customers (rate codes A-16 or A-60) and commercial electric customers (rate codes C-06 or G-02), as noted on your electric bill
2. Customers can schedule up to two appliance pickups annually for each utility account

Rebate details

1. No cost pick-up and responsible recycling
2. $50 incentive per refrigerator and/or freezer (limit two per appliance per calendar year)
3. $30 rebate per dehumidifier when recycled with your refrigerator and/or freezer (limit one per year)
4. Allow 6–8 weeks after pickup for incentive processing
5. To qualify for a rebate, appliance(s) must be picked up by Rhode Island Energy's recycling partner, ECO+

Program rules

1. Appliances must be in working condition
2. Refrigerators and freezers must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet
3. Refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed before outdoor pickup — if picked up inside, doors may remain attached
4. Dehumidifiers are eligible for recycling and pickup only when included with a refrigerator or freezer pickup
