Earn a $50 instant incentive for enrolling, plus $20 at the end of each summer season for participating.
- Enroll your eligible WiFi thermostat that controls central air conditioner or central heat pump.
- On especially hot afternoons, Rhode Island Energy may adjust your thermostat by a few degrees for a short time to help reduce high electricity demand.
- These events typically happen between 3–8 p.m. and last up to three hours.
- You earn incentives for participating and can opt out of any event if you choose.
Most summers include about 15 events, and many customers say they notice little to no change in comfort.

Do I need a specific thermostat?
Most popular smart thermostats are supported. If your thermostat is on the approved list, you can enroll in just a few minutes.
Where can I purchase a Wi-Fi thermostat?
Options for purchasing a supported Wi-Fi thermostat:
- Your local hardware store
- Online retailers, such as Amazon
- The Rhode Island Energy Marketplace
- During a Rhode Island Energy home energy assessment
Do I need a specific type of air conditioning?
Yes. To participate, your thermostat must control a central air conditioner or central heat pump.
Homes or small businesses that use window or portal air conditioners are not eligible for the ConnectedSolutions program.

When will I receive my incentive for participating in ConnectedSolutions?
You will receive an instant $50 virtual prepaid MasterCard per thermostat after being accepted into the program. The process time is typically four to six weeks. At the end of the summer season, you will also receive a $20 virtual prepaid MasterCard. You will receive multiple emails to claim their virtual prepaid MasterCard. If the virtual MasterCard is not redeemed within 7 days, a physical MasterCard will be mailed to them at no cost.
You must be enrolled on or before August 15 to receive an incentive for the current summer season.
What if the program isn’t a good fit for me?
If the program doesn’t work well for you, you can choose not to continue participating. If you would like to unenroll your thermostat, please send an email with your name, address, and thermostat type to rienergy@energyhub.com
