Shut-Off Protections
Rhode Island EnergyIf you’re facing financial or health challenges
While some protections may prevent disconnection, customers are still responsible for paying their bill during any approved protection period, and service may ultimately be subject to disconnection if payment obligations are not met.

Who may qualify
You may be eligible for protection if one or more of the following apply:
- You or a household member has a serious illness that is life-threatening or may cause long-term health effects
- You or a household member has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits major life activities
- All household members are age 62 or older
- You have a child under age two living in the home and are experiencing financial hardship*
*If your service has already been disconnected, it will be restored once infant protection documentation is received and approved.
