Get help managing your monthly energy bill

At Rhode Island Energy, we’re committed to providing reliable and affordable energy for all Rhode Islanders. If you’re facing financial hardship, we may be able to offer a discount on your monthly bill.

Discount Rate Program eligibility

Rhode Island Energy customers who are currently enrolled in certain government assistance programs qualify for either a 25% or 30% discount on their monthly RIE bills.

Receive a 25% discount if you:

  • Receive food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Qualify for heating assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Receive a 30% discount if you are enrolled in:

  • Medicaid
  • Rhode Island Works Program
  • Public Assistance

Submit your discount eligibility documentation

To receive your RIE discount, you’ll need to provide documentation confirming your eligibility. Submit your confirmation letter from one of the following assistance programs using our secure platform, Globalscape:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Medicaid
  • Rhode Island Works Program
  • Public Assistance

If you need help accessing documentation confirming your eligibility, contact the Rhode Island Department of Human Services at 1-855-697-4347.

How to submit your confirmation letter:

  1. Use our secure file transfer portal to begin the document submission process.
  2. Select “Upload” to attach your confirmation letter (JPG, PDF, PNG, DOC, and TIFF formats accepted)
  3. Type your email address in the "From" field
  4. Select “Account Protections" from the dropdown menu in the “To” field
  5. Enter your service address including city and state in the “Subject” field
  6. Include your full legal name and phone number in the “Message” field
  7. Select "Drop Files Off" to share your documents with Rhode Island Energy
