Prove your Identity
When you start service with Rhode Island Energy, you must provide either a Social Security number or a government-issued photo ID. Alternatively, you can provide a photo ID along with another form of identification.
Accepted forms of ID
Government-issued photo IDs may include:
- Driver’s license
- State-issued photo ID card
- Passport, resident card, or visa
- Military ID
If you do not have a government-issued photo ID, you must provide two alternative forms of ID, one of which must have a photo. The two forms of ID collectively must show your:
- Full name
- Address
- Date of birth
- Issue and expiration date of the document
- The agency that issued the document
Alternative photo IDs may include:
- School ID
- Work ID
- Union membership card
- Credit or debit card with a photo
Supporting alternative documents may include:
- Birth certificate
- Adoptive decree
- Legal change of name
- Social Security documents
- Social Security card
- Health Insurance card including Medicaid and Medicare
- Selective Service card

You can send us your identification using our secure platform, Globalscape.
How to submit your identification:
- Use our secure file transfer portal to begin the document submission process.
- Select “Upload” to attach your identification (JPG, PDF, PNG, DOC, and TIFF formats accepted)
- Type your email address in the "From" field
- Choose "AccountInitiation@RIEnergy.com " from the “To” field dropdown menu
- Enter your service address including city and state in the “Subject” field
- Include your full legal name and phone number in the “Message” field
- Select "Drop Files Off" to share your documents with Rhode Island Energy
