Our Enhanced Metering options provide you with dedicated tools to monitor and manage your energy usage more effectively. By upgrading to a modern metering system, you can access detailed data, identify opportunities to save on your electric bill, and contribute to a more efficient energy grid.

Service options

We offer three Enhanced Metering options designed for different needs. Each option provides detailed, real-time energy usage data. The right choice for you depends on your property’s specific conditions, like wireless signal strength or existing equipment. Use the following details to find the option that best fits your situation.

Our Enhanced Metering Team will upgrade your existing meter to one equipped with a wireless signal, collecting electric usage data every 15 minutes. You must conduct a signal strength test at the meter's location and submit the results with your application.

Wireless meter test guidelines

  • If the signal strength test shows 2 bars or less:
    • Explore "Service option 2: Phone line or landline service" for more details.
  • If the signal strength test shows 3 bars or more:
    • We will replace your existing meter with a cellular interval meter.
    • You can access interval data by signing up for EPO (Energy Profile Online).

Enroll in Enhanced Metering

  1. Complete the Enrollment Form (pdf).
  2. Use our secure file transfer portal to begin the document submission process.
  3. Select “Upload” to attach your documents (JPG, PDF, PNG, DOC, and TIFF formats accepted)

  5. Type your email address in the "From" field
  6. Choose "enhancedmetering@rienergy.com" from the “To” field dropdown menu
  7. Enter your service address including city and state in the “Subject” field
  8. Include your full legal name and phone number in the “Message” field
  9. Select "Drop Files Off" to share your documents with Rhode Island Energy
